Animal-Free Safety Assessment

Module 4A: Exposure-based Waiving (04a)

Description
Since safety assessments for consumer products, including cosmetics, are led by characterizing exposure, assessing exposure can affect the rest of the safety assessment. In fact, for some ingredients used at very low levels in a product, safe use can be assured by exposure alone, and the need for hazard assessment can be safely waived. This module describes how to apply exposure-based waiving for ingredients in cosmetics for exposure by the three common routes of exposure, dermal, oral and inhalation.

In addition to the recaps provided in each section of the module, a summary of the content of this unit is provided in PDF format in the Files section below.
